Combating organized crime and drugs is a battle that Elkhart County continues to fight. The Office of the Prosecuting Attorney and local law enforcement agencies fully support the Interdiction and Covert Enforcement Unit (ICE), formerly known as the Organized Crime and Drug Enforcement Unit (OCDEU). The ICE Unit and the Office of the Prosecuting Attorney have taken a vigorous approach to prosecute and eliminate drug traffic in Elkhart County.
Prosecutor Hill was invited by Congress to present testimony before the House of Representatives, Committee on Government Reform. He was joined by his Chief Investigator, Bill Wargo. The hearing, “Fighting Methamphetamine In The Heartland: How Can The Federal Government Assist State And Local Efforts," was conducted on February 6, 2004. Congressman Mark Souder presided over the hearing. Congressman Chris Chocola, and Scott Burns, Deputy Director for State and Local Affairs at the White House Office of National Drug Control Policy were also present. The Indiana hearing was part of a series of hearings being held across the Nation to develop strategies to combat illegal drug use from a National perspective.
