About
the Investigation Division
Members of the Investigation Division assist in local law enforcement
investigations and have full police powers. The Investigation Division
consists of a Chief Investigator and two other general investigators who
conduct interviews and investigations to supplement police department
investgations. The Division also conducts independent investigations,
at the direction of the Prosecuting Attorney.
The Division's investigators have a combined 90 years of law enforcement
experience. Their duties include:
- Locating witnesses
- Preparing witnesses for trial
- Transporting witnesses to court
- Taking follow-up statements
- Developing and maintaining liaison and relationships with all law
enforcement in Elkhart County
- Performing other investigative functions directed by the
Prosecuting Attorney
The Mission of the Investigation Division is to:
- Conduct investigations that support the goals of the Elkhart County
Prosecuting Attorney's Office.
- Provide support and assistance to the law enforcement agencies in
Elkhart County in their efforts to investigate crimes which fall under
their jurisdiction.
Investigators aid at the scene of a crime.
