ELKHART COUNTY I.C.E. UNIT SERVES SEARCH WARRANT IN ELKHART AND SEIZES APPROXIMATELY 10 POUNDS OF MARIJUANA, A HANDGUN AND A 1971 MUSTANG

            Officers of the Elkhart County I.C.E. Unit, assisted by a uniformed officer with the Goshen Police Department, followed up on a tip and obtained a search warrant for

2924 Benham Ave., Elkhart
. This occurred at approximately 9:45pm on June 18, 2009.

            As the officers approached the residence they observed Morise S. Mendoza Jr., age 31, sitting on the front porch.

            They advised Mendoza that they had a search warrant for the residence and the officers located approximately 10 pounds of marijuana in the basement of the residence. The estimated street value of the marijuana is $7500.00 The officers also found a .25 caliber handgun, which was seized.

            The officers also seized a 1971 Mustang which is owned by Mendoza.

            A Probable Cause Hearing was held on Friday and the bond was set for Mendoza at $10,000. He has been preliminarily charged with a Class D Felony Possession of Marijuana with Intent to Deliver over 30 grams. He faces up to 3 years in prison and a $10,000 fine.
