PROSECUTING ATTORNEY ENCOURAGES “PARENTS TO CULTIVATE STRONG KIDS” AT 4-H FAIR EXHIBIT.
Prosecutor Hill firmly believes that parents have the responsibility to cultivate a positive future for their children. Hill states, “A national survey on drug use found that more than 54% of children had consumed alcohol by the time they were in the eighth grade. We want kids to be armed with the correct foundation before they are faced with the decision to drink alcohol. Promoting a healthy lifestyle and educating teens about the dangers of underage drinking can dramatically improve a child’s future.”
The exhibit highlights resources of The Century Council’s “Ask, Listen and Learn: Kids and Alcohol Don’t Mix” campaign for young children. The Century Council is a national organization based in Washington, DC. Children will utilize an interactive video game which helps them make choices about healthy lifestyles. Teens will have an opportunity to participate in field sobriety testing while wearing visual impairment goggles that safely simulate intoxication.
We encourage parents to plant the seeds of responsible choices regarding alcoholic beverages and the dangers of underage drinking by having effective conversations with their young children and teens. A family pledge form with parental resources will be available. Filling this form out together reinforces a commitment to communicate about responsible choices when faced with a decision to say yes or no to using alcohol.
The Prosecutor’s exhibit will also include our Most Wanted Fugitives who have pending cases in Elkhart County. These offenders can also be viewed at www.elkhartcountyprosecutor.com.
Parents, children and teens are encouraged to visit the Office of the Prosecuting Attorney’s exhibit. This exhibit provides a framework of resources for families by helping them jumpstart their conversations about underage drinking. The exhibit is located in Commercial Building E, Booths 6 & 7.
