The Elkhart County Interdiction and Covert Enforcement Unit (ICE) is comprised of officers from the Elkhart County Sheriff's Department, Elkhart Police Department, Goshen Police Department and the Nappanee Police Departments *** MEDIA ADVISORY *** October 2, 2006 FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE CRACK COCAINE SEARCH WARRANT SERVED-DOG SHOT BY ELKHART POLICE DEPARTMENT SRT ENTRY TEAM-DRUGS AND GUNS SEIZED MEDIA CONTACT: Bill Wargo, 296-1888 ICE officers, with the assistance of the Elkhart Police Department Special Response Team (SRT) brought an investigation into alleged crack cocaine sales to a successful conclusion on Thursday night, September 28th. At approximately 10:30pm ICE officers, assisted by the SRT served a ÂNo Knock high risk search warrant at 621 W. Cleveland Ave., Elkhart . The petition for the search warrant requested the Âno knock provision based on intelligence indicating that the suspect in the residence would be armed and that an attack dog was also present at that location. Inside the residence the officers found Sylvia Fields, age 41, of that address. Ms. Fields is allegedly involved in the operation of several locations in the City of Elkhart where crack cocaine can be purchased. Ms. Fields was taken into custody and located inside of the residence was approximately 100 grams of purported crack cocaine, with an estimated street value of approximately $10,000. Also seized was $1200 dollars in currency and various paraphernalia associated with the distribution of crack cocaine. In addition officer found two handguns, one of which had been reported stolen from the Midwest Gun Exchange during one of their two burglaries last month. On Saturday, September 30th Ms Fields was formally charged by the Elkhart County Prosecuting Attorney's Office with 3 A Felony counts and one B Felony count of Possession with Intent to Deliver Cocaine, over 3 grams, Delivery of Cocaine over 3 grams and Delivery of Cocaine under 3 grams. Her bond was set at $250,000. Her possible prison sentence could be in excess of 100 years. When the SRT made entry they were confronted by a dog which attacked the initial entry team of officers. The dog was shot to prevent it from biting one of the officers. Ms. Fields has been under investigation and surveillance for several weeks. ***
