*** MEDIA ADVISORY *** March 24, 2004                                                                         For Immediate Release COLD CASE HOMICIDE INVESTIGATIONJESSICA ZBRAS, AGE 17DATE OF DEATH – MAY 8, 1995 MEDIA CONTACT:  Curtis T. Hill, Jr., 296-1888             My name is Curtis T. Hill, Jr.; I am the Elkhart County Prosecuting Attorney.  I am joined here today by representatives of the Goshen Police Department and the investigative division of the Elkhart County Prosecuting Attorney’s Office.            On May 8, 1995, the lifeless body of Jessica Zbras, age 17, of Goshen, was discovered in the City of Goshen in the close proximity of her abandoned vehicle, on this very spot, obviously the victim of murder.  The Goshen Police Department initiated a homicide investigation that quickly narrowed to a particular suspect, although it was then determined that insufficient information was available to support the suspect’s arrest at that time.  Despite the passage of time, the Goshen Police Department and Chief Terry Schollian did not forget about Jessica and her untimely death, nor did her family and friends.            Shortly before I was elected Prosecuting Attorney, I was contacted regarding Jessica’s murder.  The Goshen Police Department advised me that they believed they had a solid case against a suspect and requested that we review the case in early 2003 in the event I was elected Prosecuting Attorney.            In the spring of 2003, investigators from my office met with the Goshen Police Department to review the state of the previous investigation and to determine what further information might be required to proceed with an arrest.  Prosecutor’s investigator Gary Kenawell was assigned to work with the Goshen Police Department.  Working together, the Goshen Police Department and my office have developed new information corroborating previously existing investigative information.            As the result of the committed determination of Chief Schollian and his department working jointly with our investigators, this morning we have filed a charge of Murder against Terrance A. Evans, Jr., age 34, formerly of Goshen, for the slaying of seventeen (17) year old Jessica Zbras.            Evans, who is currently incarcerated in the State of Ohio on a Burglary conviction, had a relationship with Jessica’s mother and lived in Jessica’s home at 109 Middlebury Street in Goshen.            The authorities in the State of Ohio will be notified of the warrant for Evans’ arrest and a hold will be placed on him for return to the State of Indiana where he will face prosecution for the murder of Jessica Zbras.            Although this homicide is nine (9) years old, there is no statute of limitations for murder nor a time limit for dedicated police officers in the pursuit of justice for murder victims.  At age seventeen (17), Jessica Zbras, through no fault of her own was gone, but today, nine (9) years later, she is not forgotten.
