The Elkhart County Interdiction and Covert Enforcement Unit (ICE) is comprised of officers from the Elkhart County Sheriff's Department, Elkhart Police Department, Goshen Police Department and the Nappanee Police Departments“Under Indiana law, all persons arrested for a criminal offense are innocent until proven guilty in a court of law”*** MEDIA ADVISORY ***                                        FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASEAUGUST 9, 2007MEDIA CONTACT:  Bill Wargo, 296-1888On August 8th at approximately 11:05am officers of the Goshen Police Department Emergency Response Team assisted the Elkhart County I.C.E. Unit in the service of a search warrant at 208 ½ Queen St., Goshen. This investigation began in June of this year and centered on a person known only by the name of “Greg”, who was suspected of selling cocaine in Goshen. Further information alleged that “Greg” was a member of the street gang “Vatos Locos”.Undercover officers developed additional information that this subject was allegedly dealing out of his residence at 208 ½ Queen St.A search warrant was obtained and due to intelligence information that firearms may be located inside of the residence, and the possible gang involvement the Elkhart County I.C.E. Unit requested assistance for a high risk entry.Officers seized approximately 15.8 grams of suspect cocaine along with two sets of digital scales, baggies, other items indicative of dealing illegal drugs and $549 in cash. The officers also seized a loaded .22 caliber handgun. The suspected cocaine had an estimated street value of approximately $1600. Arrested at the residence was Gregorio Vargas, AKA: Goyyo, AKA: Greg, age 21, of the Queen St. address.  At a Probable Cause Hearing on August 9th his bond was set at $250,000. Vargas has been preliminarily charged with 3 Class A Felonies, 2 Delivery of Cocaine over 3 grams and 1 Possession of Cocaine over 3 grams with Intent to Deliver. He faces up to 150 years in prison. ***
