*** MEDIA ADVISORY *** FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE SUSPECTED METHAMPHETAMINE LAB FOUND IN NAPPANEE AREA – FOUR MINOR CHILDREN TAKEN INTO PROTECTIVE CUSTODY  MEDIA CONTACT:  Bill Wargo, 296-1888 The Elkhart County I.C.E. Unit served a search warrant at 63895 County Road 11, Elkhart County, and seized a suspected active methamphetamine lab.The I.C.E. Unit had been investigating information that indicated that methamphetamine was being manufactured and several minor children were suspected to being exposed to the methamphetamine making process at the County Road 11 location. When the officers entered the residence at approximately 6:52 p.m. on August 26, 2009, they observed a male and female subject smoking what appeared to be methamphetamine. Four children, ages 8, 11, 12 and 15, were taken by the I.C.E. Unit officers to Elkhart General Hospital to be examined for possible exposure to the methamphetamine manufacturing process. Child Protective Services was contacted and that agency will follow up on the care of the children.In addition to a small amount of suspected methamphetamine, the I.C.E. Unit and the Indiana State Police Methamphetamine Lab Team seized several other “one pot cooks” and also seized 51 items that are known to be used to manufacture methamphetamine. These items included: lithium batteries, pseudoephedrine, organic solvents, ammonia, lye, salt, hydrochloric gas, drain cleaner and other materials. The officers also seized baggies and scales and paraphernalia used to ingest illegal drugs.The officers arrested Lisa Ann Hochstetler, age 36, of that same address and booked her into the Elkhart County Jail on preliminary charges of Manufacturing Methamphetamine, less than 3 grams, a Class B Felony; Possession of Methamphetamine, less than 3 grams, a Class D Felony; three (3) counts of Neglect of a Dependent Child, Class C Felonies; and Maintaining a Common Nuisance, a Class D Felony. Hochstetler could face up to 50 years in prison, and during a Probable Cause Hearing on Friday, August 28, bond was set in the amount of $300,000.  Hochstetler also has charges pending in Kosciusko County where she was arrested in March of 2009, and is currently on bond awaiting further proceedings in that county.  In addition, Hochstetler has charges of Possession of Methamphetamine with Intent to Deliver, a Class A Felony; Manufacturing Methamphetamine, a Class B Felony; and Possession of Marijuana, a Class A Misdemeanor pending in Elkhart Circuit Court, where she had posted a bond of $100,000 stemming from a 2007 arrest.  That case is set for trial on November 16, 2009.The Office of the Prosecuting Attorney is considering further charges as deemed appropriate.***
