 ***  MEDIA ADVISORY*** March 29, 2007                      FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE GRAND JURY TO REVIEW POLICE ACTION SHOOTING             Elkhart County Prosecuting Attorney, Curtis T. Hill, Jr., announced that a Grand Jury will be convened in the Elkhart Circuit Court on Tuesday, April 17, 2007, in order to review the circumstances surrounding the January 21, 2007, shooting death of Gerald Frances Cooley, Jr., age 31, of South Bend, Indiana.  Cooley, was allegedly shot by an Elkhart Police officer following a call for assistance at a home in the 400 block of West Jefferson in the City of Elkhart.  Indiana State Police have identified the Elkhart Police officer as Mike Davis.               The Office of the Prosecuting Attorney has a general policy that alleged police action shootings be reviewed by a Grand Jury for a determination of whether the conduct involved warrants a criminal indictment.  Â“Under Indiana law, all persons arrested for a criminal offense are innocent until proven guilty in a court of law”
